And it all came crashing down!

Sigh. It's been a rather challenging couple of weeks lately.
Very challenging.

First, my gastric problems paid me an unwelcomed visit.
Then, yours truly suffered from bloating and flatulence. Big time.
Started popping my Histac pills, chewing Maalox and ingesting good bacteria to get my gastro-intestinal tract in good working order. At one point, my stomach was so bloated that my eldest girl literally blew me away when she questioned me recently:
"Mummy, do you still want another baby?!"
The immediate response was" Arghhhhh....No! I am already blessed with four. It's enough! Thanks."
And her response...."Oh.....okay. I was just wondering because your stomach is like so big!"

Sob. Sob.
(I do prefer Mr T's kinder words...his moniker for the extra bulge and stretched skin is "your badges of honour"!)

Just as I was back in good working order, our investment at Solaris Dutamas decided to cause us further major headaches and heartaches. The perennial bathroom leaks that I lamented in one of my earlier postings appears to have since been solved (fingers crossed). Our agent had already warned us of the possibility of the floor and wall tiles popping up in the unit as several of her clients had experienced the problems. Apparently, the tiles pop up as a result of insufficient cement being used when laying the tiles. We were hoping to be spared of the problem as we already had more than our fair share of problems at the condominium in the last year. Apart from the bathroom ceiling leaks, we've also had problems with the washing machine, the air-conditioning system.
It was more than enough.
Or so I thought.

Alas, that was not to be.
Initially, it looked as though it was just 8 kitchen floor tiles that had popped up.
As I stood in the kitchen staring blankly at the wall tiles wondering "WHY US?", a continuous crack of about 50cm stared back at me from the edge of the wall. An instant reflux reaction saw my knuckles automatically knocking on the wall tiles. What greeted me was a horrifying hollow sound that has since seen Mr T and I gone through a very draining 2 weeks.

A thorough check revealed the following defects:
1. Kitchen: 75% of the wall tiles were hollow i.e. insufficient cement underneath the tile i.e. high possibility of the tiles popping up in the future.
2. Utility room: 80% the wall tiles needed replacement.
3. Guest Bathroom: 90% of the wall tiles needed replacement.
4. Master Bathroom: 15 of the wall tiles were hollow.
5. Living Room and entrance:  8 floor tiles needed replacement.

There is apparently no impending warning of when the tiles may pop. The only way one can tell if the tile was poorly laid is if you hear a very distinct hollow sound when you knock on the tile with a steel instrument. Before our nightmare began, our agent had warned us of the potential problem as one of her tenant had recently returned home from work and was unable to open his front door. When the door was forced open, the tenant was greeted by 50 pieces of floor tiles in his living room that had popped up whilst he was at work, causing the front door to be jammed!

That Friday, 5th August 2011, was a black, black friday for Mr T and I.
The anger, frustration and disappointment that I felt towards the developer, who we had believed to be a reputable developer that would deliver top quality products had failed us miserably, reached boiling point.  The days that followed on were equally dark days as we had to deal with a couple of ***holes along the way. Obviously, love letters were written by yours truly to the developer with threats to publish their poor quality and service to the newspapers if immediate rectification works were not taken. Such was my anger and disappointment.

To add to our woes, we then had to break the news to our tenant who needless to say, was not too pleased with having to move himself and his belongings out. A long and painful story cut short, the developer agreed to offer our tenant alternative accomodation in the form of a serviced apartment in the same vicinity.

Guess what!? As if to prove us and our tenant right that the quality of the developer's work was truly questionable, even the serviced apartment had its own problems. The brand new washing machine leaked out water on its maiden adventure! An extremely unhappy tenant was adamant in moving out and straight into a hotel...at our expense. It was basically a ransom case of "pay for my hotel and laundry bills or I'm terminating the tenancy with immediate effect". The nightmare just worsened.

As the tiles were ripped off, the walls hacked and the sound of constant drilling filled the atmosphere, I felt suffocated.  The sheer volume of dust and debris that filled the entire atmosphere just threw me further into despair. Aside from my daily routines, my days were filled with sprinting over to the condo to check on the works to ensure that they could deliver the unit back to us on time, as well as doing major PR work with our tenant. There were exceptional trying times when I had to deal with certain individuals who were just plain ***holes! Excuse my language, but there just is no other polite way to describe such individuals. The workers appeared to emphatise with me and have more sympathy for us after witnessing my bust-up with that particular ***hole. It is sad to see that the higher one has climbed the corporate ladder, the bigger the err-hem...hole!

There were days when I struggled to balance myself rather precariously on the edge of an enormous pithole that had a long and dark tunnel. I made a conscious effort to constantly remind myself that I could not afford to fall into that deep and dark hole. On many days, I was totally drained out...both emotionally and physically.
So was Mr T.
His facial expressions and body language spoke volumes. When he was down and busy balancing himself on the edge of that enormous pithole, I somehow managed to keep my spirits up; likewise when I was doing my damnest to balance myself on the edge of that deep, dark hole, he would be the one helping me to balance and stay off the edge of that deep, dark hole.

The one thing that did manage to keep me sane and put a much needed smile on my face was our little bambinoes! They would somehow know if I had a particular bad day and would shower me endlessly with their kisses and wrap their little arms around me. The Little Genius was particularly sweet when I came home all upset on that black, black friday. She told me she had a surprise for me and enthusiastically asked me to close my eyes. I did as I was told. As I closed my eyes, I felt her soft little butterfly kisses all over my face as she showered me with her love.
That did great wonders in lifting my spirits up that day!

This entire nightmarish experience has left me wondering whether business people have any conscience as it is apparent that the issue of cost takes priority over quality and service. It makes me wonder even more that if this is a high-end development, what happens to those in low-cost housing? What happens to innocent buyers who use their hard-earned money to invest in a roof over their heads only to be cheated by unscrupulous businessmen who are out there to make a quick buck? Who cares for them when their walls come crashing down on them ... when what was supposed to be their safe haven becomes a nightmare...

Where it the fairness of it all?

Flashbacks of our nightmare.....

Redoing the kitchen floor tiles
Walls being stripped naked
...where our kitchen cabinets once stood

Completely naked!

All messed up!

Washing machine and dryer
moved to the living room area
A depressing state...
... fridge next to our sofa

Bathroom stripped naked...literally!

Slowly getting there...

Kitchen cabinets are back on

"Blessed" with two-toned tiles!!
...sigh...
Like our two-toned wall tiles?

DUST-mania!

And here is how it was, when it was still a dream....

May we all be blessed with inner peace.

During one of the recent weekends, Mr T and I treated the girls to yet another cinema outing, this time to watch Kungfu Panda 2.  I absolutely loved the film...it got me cracking with laughter and it also made me shed tears at some touching parts of the film.

The three princesses loved the film too!
They immersed themselves fully into the movie.
During those touching scenes when Po had flashbacks of how Lord Shen's men chased after the pandas and how Po's mother had to leave him behind so as to save his life, the entire cinema was quiet save for my 11 year old and 6 year old who were sobbing away. They lost themselves in the moment and forgot that they were in a cinema with over a hundred other people. I literally had to cover up No. #2's mouth as she was sobbing so loudly that the other patrons in the row in front of us discreetly turned around to see where all that sobbing was coming from.

Needless to say, when the lights came back on, 2 of our 3 princesses stared back at us with big, swollen eyes in dire need of a great big hug from mum and dad!
The poor, sweet little darlings.

On a different note......
No. #1 got back to school the next day and related to me that she kept mumbling "inner peace, inner peace" as she practised her basketball techniques in preparation for the school's sports day and how it helped her to stabilise the ball and do as it was told! A couple of her friends were well-impressed and the contagion effect soon spread and her friends too began mumbling "inner peace, inner peace" to perfect their basketball skills.

Funny how cartoons can sometimes have such a profound effect on us.

HAPPY ELEVENTH BIRTHDAY, PRINCESS!

It's unbelievable...our First-born is ELEVEN years old today.
Our role as Mummy and Daddy officially began 7 hours + 11 years ago when our First Princess made her way into this world. It's unbelievable how incredibly fast time has flown past. Our First Princess is fast approaching her teenage years.

Going back down memory lane ... not knowing that we were about to welcome our first-born on 1 July 2000, I had single-handedly indulged in almost an entire tub of Haagen Daaz Cookies and Cream the night before. Apart from a slight spotting the next morning, nothing else seemed unusual as we made our way to SJMC for our bi-weekly appointment. Little did we know that the next time we returned home, we would be returning home as a family of three.

As soon as we registered ourselves at Dr Christina Tai's clinic, we made our way to the mamak shop opposite SJMC for our usual roti telur breakfast. As Mr T was paying the bill, I suddenly felt a sharp contraction that made me froze in pain. We knew then, that our lives would soon change forever...for the better.

Dr Tai checked me and was rather alarmed to find that my blood pressure was abnormally high. I can still recall that she checked my blood pressure three times, as my blood pressure had always been good. She had asked if i was feeling panicky, apprehensive, etc....I assured her I wasn't. I started feeling a little worried though, when she told the first-time parents that she had to induce me by breaking the water-bag to check whether there was any meconium as that would be a sign that baby was in distress). As we were wheeled into the labour room, Mr T called his parents, the first-time grandparents-to be, to inform him that their grandchild would be due at anytime that day. Likewise, I also called my Mama and Papa to inform them that I was on the way to the labour room.

The breaking of my water-bag was as painful as the contractions itself! Mr T and I recalled the moment that Dr Tai broke my water-bag. I was groaning in pain, going "Owwwwwww! Owwwwwww! Owwwwwww!" when Dr Tai asked Mr T "Why is she groaning?". Mr T's plain and simple answer was "PAINFUL-LAH!"

About 3 hours after that painful procedure, our little bundle of joy was safely in our arms. We had chosen not to know the sex of our baby during our pregnancy. That must have been an uncommon choice as most parents would know the sex of their baby as soon as their baby was gungho enough to show off their genitalia on the scan! So when our little bundle of joy was born, it wasn't like what you see in the movies when after all that pushing and oohhhhs and ahhhhhs, the doctor proudly proclaims "You have a beautiful baby boy/girl" during the handover ceremony to the new parents. As Dr Tai snipped off the umbilical cord, it was Mr T who whispered lovingly in my ears "It's a girl". My first question (as with all my other babies ) was "Has she got 10 fingers and 10 toes?". The reply came in the form of a loving nod. It was an extremely happy and exciting moment for us all...not only had we officially been promoted to parenthood, but we had also promoted Mr T's parents to the title of DATUK and NENEK.

It was a relatively easy birth (just over 3 hours) as she was a tiny baby at 2.6kg. It took just 2 or 3 pushes before she squiggled her way into this world. Not much has changed in that aspect as she is still really skinnny. And she loves being skinny. She would painstakingly peel off the fat from the chicken or pork befor eating it; the only chicken skin she eats is the roasted chicken rice or the grilled honey teriyaki chicken that she loves.

Right at the time of her birth eleven years ago, I had just picked Skinny from her school. We "high-fived" and I recollected to her what Mummy and Daddy were doing 11 years ago. Skinny wasn't too good at nursing from Mummy's natural milk factory. She would suckle for a few minutes before falling into deep slumber. Before long, the milk factory had to cease operations as there as not enough stimulation and I was not determined enough at that time. Skinny was a very reliable alarm clock for the first few months of her young life, waking up at precisely every 3 hours for her milk.

Skinny was a very good baby; she didn't cry excessively and was quite easy to care for. If friends or relatives wanted to carry her, she would be more than happy to oblige. I learnt a lot during that first couple of months. For the first time in my life, I learnt to bathe a new-born baby (I particular enjoyed this bonding time with all my babies), fold nappies, wash dirty, smelly nappies... I learnt to steadily hold a scissors to those tiny fingers to trim their nails...to cut hair on a sleeping baby...I enjoyed watching our little new-born sleep and play with her angels in her sleep...ohh....and the baby-smell was just heavenly.

For her 11th birthday, our Princess gave us her wish list.
Top on the list was her own i-Phone and an i-Pad.
That was immediately crossed out as even Mum and Dad did not own any of those i-Machines!

Next on her wish list were:

1. No reprimanding or scolding by either parent...FULL-STOP.
Status: Successfully negotiated to limiting this wish for her birthday weekend!

2. Buying the satay sold by a satay vendor outside her school was next on her wish list!
[I had strictly limited the number of times she could have the satay on the basis that there was no meat in it; it was just some floury, chewy unidentifiable stuff that looked like satay! Somehow, the school kids just love it!]
Status: Wish fulfilled.

The contented birthday girl indulging in her "satay"!
3.  Go swimming, swimming, swimming.
Status: Wish fulfilled.
It was also the first time that the Little Man played in the swimming pool. He loved it and was very upset when it was time to get him out of the pool!

4. Home-Baked Chicken, Ham & Cheese Pie
Status: Scheduled for the upcoming weekend (once mummy has bought all the ingredients)!

The Birthday Girl had a wonderful surprise in school as her school-friends lavished her with birthday presents. Though there was no birthday party organised this year, her dear friends remembered her birthday. She had a great big bag of pressies when I picked her from school. This attracted the attention of several of her teachers who sent her their birthday greetings!

Unfortunately, I was too slow with the camera and the Birthday Girl was too fast with ripping of the wrappers; hence I only managed to take this picture of the Birthday Girl with one of her presents!

Even the Birthday Girl's sisters and little brother were given pressies by her twin friends!

The wrapper says: "Lil' Brother...The First Present"
"Lil' Sisters...Don't Fight...it's the same"
Birthday Girl giving her Little Man his present!
Muhahaha...it's mine!

Celebration time with the family.....
Inner peace...may the Birthday Girl always be blessed....
